Doug Horton Sr. is a long-standing martial artist whose passion for traditional Chinese martial arts has shaped the Kung Fu program at the SWM Budokan. With decades of experience, his teaching emphasizes discipline, fluid movement, and practical self-defense rooted in the classical forms of Kung Fu.

The program introduces students to stances, striking, blocking, and forms while building balance, coordination, and body control. As students progress, they are guided through more advanced applications, including partner drills, weapon training, and the philosophy behind Kung Fu practice.
Horton Sr.’s approach blends tradition with modern relevance, ensuring students not only gain martial skills but also develop confidence, focus, and respect. The program is open to all ages, providing a pathway for physical fitness, cultural appreciation, and personal growth.
Tony & David Chong
Doug Horton’s teachers, Tony and David Chong, are highly respected martial artists known for their dedication to traditional Chinese Kung Fu and their influence on martial arts in Canada. The Chong brothers emphasize discipline, precision, and the cultural roots of Kung Fu, combining rigorous physical training with the art’s deeper philosophy. Their legacy has shaped generations of martial artists, including Doug Horton, who carries forward their teachings at the SWM Budokan. Grand Master David Chong established the Canadian Karate Kung Fu Association in 1961 and shortly there after Sensei Doug Horton began training. Now, over 65 years later, Sensei Doug continues to train, coach and mentor students in the 5 Animal Style of Kung Fu and sits on the grading board of the organization. In 2024 he received the organization's lifetime achievement award for his ongoing contributions and achievements in multi-disciplinary martial arts.
